On April 17, the seventh Dreamland English corner was held as scheduled at the lobby of the Honors College. Although it was the middle of the semester and many students have already been busy with their preparation for the mid-term examinations, many students were present in the evening, including those who are from the School of Aeronautics, the School of Mechanical Engineering and the School of Automation, etc.
Tim Kingham, the foreign teacher, was also invited to attend the English corner, together with Li Yi, the Oral English teacher from an education organization. The topics proposed for this English corner were: "Would you prefer to make friends in the real life or in the virtual world (e.g. through the internet, etc) and why", "Describe a memorable birthday celebration" and "What sport do you usually do? What's your plan for the coming Sports Day".
Students were divided into different groups to discuss. Some believed that making friends in the real life was better to get to know each other and not be easily deceived, while some others held the opinion that in virtual world they could feel more comfortable and relaxed while communicating. Many students those who participated in the activity for the first time were influenced by others, they gradually became active and quickly immersed themselves in the discussions.
With more participation in English corner, more students agreed that English corner events were not only helping them to improve their oral English ability, but also strengthen their communication skills in all aspects. It is expected that more communication, brainstorming, brilliant ideas will be generated here.
