On April 2, the fifth Dreamland English corner was held as scheduled at the lobby of the Honor College. Although it was rainy that night, it still couldn't stop the students' eagerness to come and practice oral English. The students who participated in this English corner not only met the "familiar faces" of the past, but also a lot of students from the school of Aeronautics, the school of mechanical Engineering, and the school of Electronics and Information, etc. There were three themes for this English corner: "talking about Chinese traditional festivals", "Plan on Tomb-sweeping day" and "local food in my hometown".
The English corner began with the self-introduction of the new members and the discussions on the plan of the Tomb-sweeping day. Everyone soon was engaged into the English communication environment. Students were divided into four groups to introduce traditional Chinese festivals at first. Each group decided its own topic for the group discussions. Mid-Autumn Festival, Tomb-sweeping day, Spring Festival and Cold-food Festival were chosen by each group respectively. The festivals were introduced one by one by a representative from each group. After each group's presentation, students in other groups put forward own questions or opinions. After such a warm-up session, students became more active, and everyone enthusiastically expressed their views in English. Until 9 p.m., many students were still not willing to leave.
With more and more students participating in English corner, English corner is not only a platform for students to practice oral English and communication skills, but also a place to share the info, exchange ideas and make new friends.
