On March 20th, 2021, Honors College held a CET seminar to help the students to pass the test and communicate with the world better. Although it was a chilly Saturday evening, with a lot of homework undone and the tight schedule ahead, many HC students still came to Teaching East Block D 202 to attend the seminar in order to improve their English capability.
Aside from the passion and needs for improving both oral and written English, another reason for the students to come is that the an experienced teacher from New Oriental Education Group, Xue Wentao was invited as the reporter. As a member of Centre for University Student Learning and Development (Xi’an Center), he once won the first prize in the CCTV provincial competition for five consecutive years.
During the seminar, the teacher Xue stressed on the importance on vocabulary as the basis of passing the CET, and the correct pronunciation is also important to communicate with English speakers. Particularly, listening needs extra practice, which is much more different from writing. In addition, he suggests students to build the vocabulary by finding the weakness while reading.
the two-hour seminar was carried on smoothly and well responded by students. It is expected that HC students can learn English with stronger motivation, more efforts and better skills to get them heard and connected with the world better in the “Global Village”.
