On Dec 2nd, 2020, Ms. Wei Xiaodong, the secretary of international affairs, together with Ms Yuan Yun, the deputy dean of the Honors College (HC), initiated an on-line meeting with Mr. Allen Hao. Mr. Hao had facilitated a few cooperation projects successfully between University of Cambridge and NPU in the previous years as an international coordinator. Recently, Mr. Hao has been working closely with the leaders and teachers from Honors College to design and implement tailored programs for the students of HC.
Earlier this year, the Summer Camp for HC students to spend several weeks in University of Cambridge was unfortunately cancelled due to the epidemic, but the strong wiliness and wishes of continuing the cooperation with University of Cambridge still stay.
During the meeting, Ms Yuan discussed the possibility of inviting professors from University of Cambridge to give lectures or deliver courses to HC and other students in NPU. The hybrid form of combing on-line courses and on-site courses will be adopted according to the situation of epidemic in the next semester. Applied Mathematics and Microprocessor Lab Course and the Material Science Course turned to be the most promising courses for the cooperation.
2021 Winter Program of University of Cambridge for improving academic competence was also introduced by Mr. Hao. Th program will be a project-based learning workshop, consisting of lectures from 8 different research domains, including AI, Big Data, Machine learning, International Relations, Politics and Policies, Arts, etc.
Furthermore, both sides also discussed and explored the potential cooperation of building a center in University of Cambridge for NPU students, especially HC students, so that students can spend a few months there and complete the undergraduate thesis project.
