On Friday evening, June 4, the thirteenth DREAMLAND English Corner was held in the hall of the Honors College as scheduled. The event was hosted by the deputy dean of Honors College, Ms. Yuan and also invited the Oral English teacher, Ms. Li, from the Education Organization. In addition to students from the Honors College, students from the College of Power and Energy, together with international students, actively participated in the English corner.
This time, English Corner provided five topics for students: “Language-learning apps”, “Cooking and mental health”, “Can the “Paradox mindset” help you?”, “How do university students handle their money efficiently”, “How do you understand the English saying‘Less is more’?”. Apart from those given topics, students also talked about other things theywere interestedin.
What’s more, Wu Lan,one of HC students, was recently awarded a prize in an English speech contest held in our university. She was invited to share her speech with us. Her speech was amazing, greeted with a lot of applause. Besides, Victor Barcelo, an international student, not only shared his interesting life in Mexico during his high school years, but also brought the book Fox in Socks written by Dr. Seuss to us and talked about the interesting words and illustrations in the book with some students. Moreover, Ms. Yuan discussed with several students on leadership and other topics. Students also actively expressed their own opinions. Some students said, “The English corner is a good platform for English communication. We like the environment and atmosphere, and we really have learned a lot from the event.”
DREAMLAND English corner is held regularly by Honors College, which provides students with a stable platform for English communication. In the English corner, students can practice their oral English, improve their English communication ability and make new friends at the same time. DREAMLAND English corner constantly introduces new forms and contents of activities to meet the diverse needs of students in English learning.
