On March 18th, 2021, Ms. Wendy Wang, the director of teaching and research center in Gecacademy was invited and gave a lecture on scientific research projects led by tutors from world-class overseas universities to students of Honors College in Qixiang Room, Honors College Building. Ms. Yuan Yun (the deputy dean of HC) and Ms. Wei Xiaodong (the secretary of international affairs) attended the lecture.
First of all, Ms. Wang made a brief self-introduction of herself and Gecacademy. Her focus is about online scientific research projects provided by Gecacademy. She presented her experiences and the abilities of tutors in the world-class overseas universities. According to her understanding, what tutors prefer are academic highlights, excellent scores (GPA, TOEFL, IELTS, GRE, etc.) and experiences on extracurricular activities. She emphasized the importance of publishing academic papers and indicated that scientific research experience is also a brilliant part of the resume.
Next to that, she also addressed the significance of scientific research experiences. Scientific research experiences will help students to apply scholarships successfully, study further abroad and seek for jobs. The richer scientific research experiences, the more competitive advantages. In particular, for those who would like to study further, experiences on scientific research can play an important role in catching tutors’ attention.
Eventually, she instructed students how to polish resumes with scientific research experiences. Conveying the specific process of studying and researching would be a good way to show the spirit of exploration in a certain research field. Besides, it is highly recommended to summarize research results and publish papers, which indicate the great ability of academic writing.
