On March 17th, 2021, students of Honors College welcomed Mr. Hou Xiaorui, the independent education consultant of University of California, to give us an introduction of studying abroad. Mr. Wang Yangang (dean of HC), Mrs. Yuan Yun (deputy dean) and Ms. Wei Xiaodong (secretary of international affairs) presented Qizhen Salon as well.
Before Mr. Hou’s lecture, Mr. Wang gave ‘Honor Tutor’ to Mr. Hou, to show our appreciation and respect to him. Honor tutor is a special title given by HC to professors who is favorably received and has contributed to HC especially in students’ study plans.
Then, Mr. Hou began his lecture. He stressed the significance of getting prepared for study abroad earlier. For students of the first and second grade, it is the best to make our plans now. And to be admitted by foreign universities, we need to have an excellent GPA, academic publication and some working experience. Mr. Hou also taught us the ways to know and choose our ideal university and analyze the situation of studying abroad now. Examples are given, in order to indicate that we can make it to our dream university as long as we want it and are willing to contribute to it.
The last activity is Q&A where students asked questions eagerly. Cai Chen, a senior student , asked the challenges of studying in America and European countries and his worries about not being able to learn the core knowledge in foreign countries. Mr. Hou responded to his doubt by explaining the successful examples and encouraged him to go for his dream.
The Qizhen Salon was ended in students’ warm applause. It seemed that everyone was benefited a lot from this fantastic salon.
