On March 5, the English corner was held in the lobby of Honors College Building by the deputy dean of HC, Yuan Yun and the teacher of HC, Wei Xiaodong. More than 100 students from different grades and different colleges came to join the activity and presented a heated discussion together. Tim Kingham, the foreign teacher, was also invited to the English corner.
After a brief welcome and introduction from Ms Yuan, the event began. Students gathered at the lobby of HC and felt free to talk to anyone. This week’s English corner included three topics: ‘What do you think of studying abroad?’ ‘Something that has impressed you a lot’ and ‘Your plan of year 2021’. Apart from these topics, students also talked about other topics they are interested in. The conversation was pleasant and laughter can be heard everywhere.
The first English corner was a great success. Each participant tried his or her best to speak English not only with their classmates, friends but also with strangers they have never met before. They built friendship while practicing their spoken English. “I really appreciate our college can give us such an opportunity to practice my spoken English. Though it is quite hard to start the talking, once I got started, everything seemed to become easier soon.” said Alisa, one of our fellow students.
Many of us also had the same feeling as Alisa. The English corner with 4F (Free space, Free talks, For everyone, From now on) advantages really meets students’ expectations. It is also an exciting piece of news to know that it will be held every Friday evening from 7:00 to 9:00pm at HC. It can be a chance for everyone to practice English in a long time.
Students from international education college, Queen Mary University of London Engineering School, etc., also attended the event and enjoyed the international communications lasting for more than 2 hours in the evening.
