Kick-off Meeting of NPU Honors College English Report Core Team

On January 15, 2021, the Kick-off meeting of NPU Honors College English Report Core Team was held in the conference room of Honors College. Ms. Yuan Yun, the deputy dean of the college, together with Ms. Wei Xiaodong, the secretary of international affairs and the Core Team student members participated the meeting.

The NPU Honors College English Report Core Team was set up in order to improve students’ global competence. Students in the team are expected to play a model role in the future in the college, to motive more students to improve their English capability by writing and speaking more and enhance the international atmosphere of the college by supporting the college’s English website work with news and reports written on their own life and study.

Ms. Yuan firstly reviewed each news previously written by students with the comments and suggestions to improve before introduced how to write a good news report in English to students.The responsibilities of the core team were specified and several students were assigned to take the leading roles in different aspects.

Students openly discussed their challenges of improving English, including being lack of peers to practice, having insufficient time to continue English learning and less motivation to go abroad for further study, etc. Ms Yuan and Ms Wei encouraged students to be more proactive and learn from those who are more experienced in learning and improving English.

The students committed that they would make good contributions to promote NPU and Honors Colleges to the outside world further by providing their volunteering work, meanwhile, improving their own capability in various perspectives.

Prof. Wang Yangang, the Dean of Honors College joined in the meeting during the free discussion. He introduced a few alumni of NPU, who have made very successful career paths. Many of those have been benefited by their experience of studying and working abroad. Prof. Wang emphasized that the college would support students in many means to improve students’ global competence and leadership, starting from improving students’ international communication skills. He also believed that setting up this English Report Core Team would be not only very helpful for students to improve their English capability, more importantly, to expand students’ international views and inspire them to study harder and make their dreams come true.
